                A BLACKBIRD SINGS

                By Josie Whitehead

                  blackbird

                A blackbird sings from the chimney top, as happy as can be,

                And I would be so proud if I could sing as sweet as he;

                  And to the sunny morn he throws his voice out to the wind

                  Announcing to the whole wide world that soon it will be spring.

                If people could but write the words sang by this noble bird –

                And engrave upon this sunny day a heartfelt little word,

                  They ought to shout from every place their sincere thanks to God –

                  But mankind prefers his warring – now don’t you think that’s odd?
