                The last twelve months have come and gone,

                 There's no time now to change it.

                Look to the future - start afresh,

                  Well, we'll endeavour to arrange it.

                Perhaps a few things went horribly wrong -

                  Shut the door firmly on them.

                Think of the things that went perfectly right -

                  That we'd like to relive over again.

                Think of the weather, freezing and cold,

                  Of the fires that are burning so bright.

                Think of the homeless, the weary or old -

                  Will somebody love them tonight?

                Wild ringing bells - ring in the New Year,

                  Throw your voices out in the cold air.

                For some you'll bring love, hope and good cheer,

                  For others, loneliness and despair.

                We can't all start the year in the same kind of way -

                  Though none of us knows what's ahead.

                We're all in this world with our own parts to play,

                  Earning our daily bread.

                Ring the wild bells, sing aloud in your gladness;

                  Welcome the New Year with joy.

                Put behind you the things which caused sadness;

                  There's a New Year ahead to enjoy.
