Today I saw an alien who was walking down our street.

He wore a very funny hat and walked with turned out feet.

His dark sun glasses hid his face, his coat was very dirty –

He acted like a teenager, but I’d say that he was thirty.

He walked on towards the station to catch the local train,

His coat was really soaked because he’d walked in lots of rain.

He had a cigarette in one hand, in the other was a can -

And yet I think he thought himself a sophisticated man.

The strangest thing I noticed was that people seemed to know him,

One called out loudly in the street: “Are you coming on the train Jim?”

He seemed at home with all his friends - in fact he was quite “cool”

Then I suddenly discovered that he was going home from school.
