An optimist and a pessimist were walking down the street

The pessimist looked gloomy for his life was far from sweet.

“It’s very sad to think”, he said, “we must pay for dental care.”

“Yes, aren’t we really lucky that our teeth are all still there?”

The optimist looked at the sky: “It’s such a lovely day” –

But the pessimist looked miserable: “But snow is on its way.”

His friend replied: “Well never mind, it will not linger long”,

The pessimist was doubtful for he thought his friend was wrong.

The optimist will see dark clouds but also silver linings –

And even on the darkest day, somewhere the sun is shining.

The pessimist sees the blacker side to every single action,

His life is bleak, his face is long, he’s no inner satisfaction.

The poor old pessimist is sad: “My hair’s now falling out” –

His face is always gloomy – he perpetually wears a pout.

The optimist is happy - he sees that half his hair remains,

And says thanks to God each morning that he never does complain.
