Click photo to play recorded reading Many women, engulfed with “motherhood” begin to feel they’ve lost their identity. What a shame! Don’t feel like this. Your new identity is added to your old one, and you are fulfilling one of the most important roles of all in life. Your reward is when your children say: “All I have, and all I am in life, is attributable to my mother.” These words are better than winning the lottery – you bet!
She’s lovely, they said, as she gave her first yell – And her parents quickly fell right under her spell. A dear little girl, with such lovely blue eyes. “She’s happy with life. It’s not often she cries.”
Her early years go - now she can speak, read and write. She plays with her friends and she rides her first bike. She gets into trouble, as all children do, And before you can blink she’s at secondary school.
She works hard at her studies and she passes exams. She trots off to college and works as hard as she can. Then she meets and she marries a lovely young man, And her life quickly changes – was this a part of her plan?
She’s now changing nappies – her night’s not her own. With her “dancing days” gone, she seems always at home. She’s no time for herself – there’s no time to think, And she seems to spend hours at the kitchen sink.
Her identity’s gone for she’s now known as Mum, And some days she wonders “Who have I become?” The clock hands go faster than ever before, And there always seems to be toys on the floor.
It seems only yesterday that she took them to school. The speed that life passes can sometimes seem cruel. White hairs have appeared and a wrinkly face – Old age has crept on her with such a disgrace.
She’s busy again with a child in her arms Who looks into her face and smiles at her charms. One little grandchild soon turns into three – Is anyone else any happier than she?
