THE REALLY TASTY VEGETABLE (a very very sad story)

We saw it growing in the garden -

Although, it looked a little strange.

So we thought that we would eat it –

Just as something for a change.

Then, when we tried to catch it,

                  It jumped across the hedge

So we promised not to hurt it –

                  With our undying pledge.

We promised that we’d love it,

                  Yes, until its dying end;

That we’d feed every morning -

Well, we’d treat it like a friend.

                But strange things started happening

                  That caused us great distress.

                First, our cat mysteriously vanished,

And we searched, with no success.

Our dog seemed very worried –

Then his worry turned to fright,

For we saw the veggie stalking him

When we let him out that night.

                I think you’ve guessed what happened –

We had to break our pledge

And the creature that we’d nurtured

                  Became a really tasty veg.
