Some words just sit on paper, some float through the air.
People write on birthday cards to show someone they care.
They say that babies can hear words before they’re even born.
Words are what we humans use to comfort those who mourn.
Words are powerful tools indeed – so think before you speak.
Your words may have a big effect upon somebody’s week.

I like writing poetry so I hunt for words that rhyme.
Sometimes we try to hide from words, but they won’t leave us alone.
They come in many languages on paper and by phone.
Animals don’t use words, of course – they simply growl or squeak
But they look at us with interest – do you think they’d like to speak?
Words make you laugh, make you cry, they cheer you when you’re down.
They come in many different forms - verbs, adjectives and nouns
The world would be a funny place if we humans couldn’t speak.
We’d only want to stay in bed and sleep and sleep and sleep. zzzzzz
